Vintage Cinema Lens Set for $1000!

Check out my Vintage set of Canon FD lenses that I purchased for less than the cost of a single modern photography lens! Canon K-35 Lenses are highly sought after in the world of cinema, but are some of the most expensive lenses you can buy. However, the vintage Canon FD lenses from the late 70's through the 80's were the predecessors to the K-35's and are almost indistinguishable in terms of p...

Can they spread their wings when in harness? How long can they stay comfortable in it?
Yes. Their wings are not held in. They can freely move all their bits.
Glad you have a hamoc guard dog
Bravo!
Thank you!
are you fucking delusional? that footage looks nothing like the shot you showed earlier.
1000$? Maybe in 2012 but most countries have shipping costs and taxes. A complete sorted set with appropriate filter rings and case and caps is more like 3-4000$ if you want the good ones with no fungus or scratches. I gave about this much for Zeiss Jena, one lens I had to order two times because the condition didn’t meet description.
To get all the bells and whistles would be a bit over $1000. But you can still get them cheap and in great condition
Well, it is easier to harness a chicken than a cat. And the chicken will forgive you later. I always had several that were just fine with it and some that just would not adjust. Earlier the better.
Agreed
The only problem I have with those lenses is the flange distance. My bmpcc6k has an ef mount with a LONGER flange distance than fd, you have to mod the lenses, which is expensive (195$ per lens for a QUALITY mount and not a plastic one) AND you have to be good at taking the whole back element of the lens off. Too much hustle for me... for now, the sigma 18-35 and canon ef50mm 1.8 stm have to hold up... maybe a mist filter will do in achieving some of the qualities of those older lenses...
Is it possible to adapt these to a Pl mount camera?
I don’t see why not. There are CANON FD to PL mount adapters.
Thanks for the reunion show and good times. You guys made the best music to get drunk to.
Thank you!!
You have your 57-77mm step up ring next is your magnetic filter holder and lastly your filter? I’m trying to recreate your project. Thanks for the sick video
correct! Good luck!
Hey there found your video and just decided to collect my own fd lenses to create a cinema collection. Do you have a list of the process or maybe if you used the ndf or fd. I know I see fd but on eBay sometimes I see fd ndf 28mm for example. So I’m curious if your using breech lock or bayonet lock. Thank you
The rapper is so sleazy.

Are You a native American?
Supposedly, I have Cherokee about 4 generations back...so not really.
You have very red face@@PopartFilms
Will you be willing to sell the lens set?
No. I use this lens set all the time.
What did you use to mount the lenses to the camera? I have an ef mount and have been looking at Simmod’s
Fotasy FD to E mount
Your exposure is way too dark. "Cinematic" low key lighting is not appropriate for product displays
I'm not selling my rig and this is not a product display. Also, based on the videos on your RUclips channel, I'd say you should focus more on making something that doesn't look like it was filmed and edited in the 90's and less time critiquing other people's exposure. ;-)
This video is a true gem.
Thank you!
Los lentes Canon tienen bastante viñeta.
Thanks for loads of great useful info and tips. Much appreciated. Keep it up bro.

Great video, mad I had to read though.

Since there are different canon fd lens which ones did you get?
Canon NFDs: 20mm f/2.8 24mm f/2.8 35mm f/2 50mm f/1.4 85mm f/1.8 100mm f/2
I knew they were there, but your presentation and acting were marvelous. Congrats! Great job!
Thank You!
“Budget” dude with the price of the seinheisers I could build the physical rig and power plus monitor all these parts are so over the top.
Nice! Nailed the editing on this. Really cool stuff 👌
Thank You!
No tienes otra cosa más interesante que hacer?
No, I don't.
where did you find the cage with the circular hole in the foam ?
Not sure what you mean? Can you be more specific?
Your face is really, really red
great explanation and infos, thx a lot !! (but next time would be nice if you go outside and film some beautiful outdoor footage ... )
Thanks! I’ll do my best to get some juicy nature footage next time!
Fun presentation! However, the title may be misleading. A "true" K35 replica set is made up of the SSC aspherical lenses from the Canon FD line up. If you're not pressed for having a more complete set of these lenses to be identical, then you can save a lot of money. If you want more information on lenses that come closer and what to keep an eye for, head over to The Media Division for their K35/ Canon FD line up!
Dude, you are orange! Lay off the grade!
Except the A74 has horrible rolling shutter that disqualifies it as a cinema camera. Why would I go through all the effort just to make my audience sick? It is quality that matters not quantity.
A lot of shots don’t require a camera with a global shutter. In this case it can be a great option.
Pretty sick dude!!!!
Hey thanks!
Do you have LUTs? The grade on the intro was sick!
I do not have LUTs. I shot it in slog3, then used "Leeming LUTs" to correct it. After that it was just a lot of tweaking for that "Ozark" feel.
Mind sharing the list of components? I have FD 50mm and 24mm. Also the Helios 44-2 58mm.
I majored in photography in college and have been working in the field for over 30 years. About six months ago, due to unforeseen circumstances, I had no choice but to venture into the realm of videography. It seems like I will continue to work in video production in the future. The area is new and challenging for me with a lot to learn, but the fact that I'm taking on a new challenge and working in a field similar to what I've done my whole life-photography-is exciting and feels worth the challenge. Your videos have been immensely educational for me and have served as a significant source of inspiration. Thank you! I'm currently using 4D DJI equipment, but I'm struggling because I'm using lenses designed for photography, which don't give me that cinematic feel I'm aiming for. Although there are multiple factors contributing to the cinematic quality of a video, I believe the lens plays a significant role. I can't afford high-end cinematic lenses, so I'm looking into mid-range options. Do you think using cinematic lenses is essential to achieve a filmic quality in videos? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm considering purchasing the lens set from Nisi that you've recently showcased. By the way, what camera and lens did you use for this video? Was it shot with the new Canon FD lens you recently purchased? I always enjoy your informative videos. Thank you so much! detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a1z0d.6639537/tb.1997196601.88.1b187484FQfoyX&id=719895992135
In my opinion, lenses and cameras have very little to do with a cinematic image. It has everything to do with lighting, movement and composition.
@@PopartFilms I understand where you're coming from, and many in the film and photography industries would agree with you. While high-quality lenses and cameras can provide more detail and color accuracy, the essence of a cinematic image often lies in the way the scene is lit, the movement within the frame, and how the elements are composed. Lighting: Effective lighting sets the mood and creates the atmosphere. It also highlights the subject and adds depth to the scene. Whether you're going for a dark and moody vibe or something bright and cheerful, lighting plays a critical role. Movement: The movement of either the camera or the subject can add a dynamic layer to the storytelling. Techniques like tracking shots, dolly shots, and handheld shots can add excitement or tension to a scene. Composition: The way elements are arranged within the frame can significantly affect how the viewer interprets the image. The use of the rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing can guide the viewer's eye and create a balanced and engaging image. So while cameras and lenses are important tools in capturing high-quality images, they alone can't ensure a "cinematic" quality. That is often achieved through careful consideration of lighting, movement, and composition. I completely agree with the opinion you've shared. I'm reminded once again that a cinematic feel involves various conditions, especially factors like lighting, camera movement, and post-production color correction. Thank you for your honest and valuable input!👍
I like your color grade, over all very nicely done! I imagine the vignetting, especially on the wider focal lengths, is just how the lens performs, isn't it? I have those 24 & 50, 85 will be next, but I've never shot them full frame
Thank you! I can’t remember if the vignette was just the lenses wide open or part of my color grade. 🤷♂️
I am jamming today!! Thank you GB and Robbie!!💖💃💃
Happy to help?
Best live band that never made it big. So lucky to have seen them TWICE
Totally awesome, love it! What is the magnetic filter holder system you mentioned. I need that!
Xume magnetic lens adapters.
So did you use the step up rings then the magnetic filter holder or what?
Great breakdown of how you kitted out your lenses! Certainly got me thinking 😁
Thank you, Sir!
Stumbled on this video again years later, I was 15 and closeted when I initially watched it and now I'm 25 (and out to most since 16). I'm glad the situation for LGB teens in schools has improved even more since then in most places (although not for trans teens unfortunately, nor for LGBT+ teachers that are constantly getting accused of spreading an agenda, and overall LGBT+ rights are under attack once more in many western countries). However I have to say it's a little disappointing that the short film never got released in the end.
It is unfortunate. I spent a lot of time making it. In the end, it was supposed to be shopped around to film festivals, but that never got off the ground. Eventually, it was decided that it’s relevancy had passed and it was stored away back into a dusty old closet and forgotten.
@@PopartFilmsIn a way I guess it's a good thing that the relevancy has passed. Let's hope it stays that way and that we don't need more documentaries to remind people to treat each other with respect.
Lol! That was hilarious! I'm going to try putting one on mine tomorrow. 🤣
Good luck! Haha!
OLD video and they have changed a bit
